Expensive but worth it
This should have been a factory option. While it is expensive, it's still worth it due to the comfort factor, extra storage and that I will use it constantly while driving.

It should be stock on all USDM cars...
...but it's not, so while pricey, it's an official JDM part that's easy to install. subiebros was great from ordering to shipping to linking install info.

Expensive, but huge increase in usability and comfort
It's expensive for what it is, but it effectively raises the armrest by 18mm, bringing it to a much more usable height. I'm 6'2", and with the steering column fully extended, I'm able to comfortably rest my elbow on the armrest and still hold the wheel with my right hand. The OEM looks (awesome felt interior) and extra storage are just a bonus!

JDM Armrest Extension for Subaru STI
Product seems to be well made and was easy to install. Makes center armrest much more usable. Probably a little over priced. Would be nice to have instructions written in English but managed to get through it using the diagrams provided (with Japanese text).

SUBARU JDM DUAL ARMREST EXTENSION
Subiebros is excellent and fast shipping. Great internal add-on, but it should be come with the factory installed.
